Regine Velasquez first officially joined GMA-7 in 1998, when she became a regular host and performer of the defunct musical-variety program SOP. Since then, Regine topbilled teleseryes and did several hosting jobs for reality competitions such as Search For a Star (2004), Pinoy Pop Superstar (2005), and most recently, The Clash (2018).
After 20 years, the Asia’s Songbird has officially left GMA-7.
Just today, October 17, Kapamilya network officially welcomed back Regine. A red-carpet welcome led by ABS-CBN executives marked Regine’s first steps as a Kapamilya into the network’s Quezon City headquarters — her new home — moments before she signed the contract making her the newest, and now one of the brightest, stars of the media giant.
Ogie Alcasid, who similarly made headlines in 2016 when he transferred to ABS-CBN awaits the arrival of his wife Regine, the newest addition to the Kapamilya network. She was in tears as she was warmly welcomed back to ABS-CBN.
Regine has been a GMA-7 talent for the past 20 years, though her page’s admin pointed out in comments that the star’s first two TV appearances were on the ’80s ABS-CBN variety shows Triple Treat and Teen Pan Alley.
Regine’s ABS-CBN switch, interestingly, also completes the reunion of past “SOP” mainstays in one network. Prior to Regine, Ogie, Jaya, Janno Gibbs, and Lani Misalucha had all inked contracts with ABS-CBN.
With a cheer of her own, Regine proudly shouts she is now a certified Kapamilya. (MJ Felipe, ABS-CBN News) #SongbirdReturnsToABSCBN
